Worked OK for a few months, jack quit working March 22, 2010

The heart of this splitter is a cheap hydraulic bottle jack modified with two foot pedals - one for pumping and one for releasing. When the jack fails the splitter is finished. Mine lasted just a few months; probably less than a cord of firewood. It did OK on ponderosa and juniper but when I started splitting oak and pinyon it bit the dust.
When it worked it was slower than splitting with a maul but much easier on the joints and was pleasant to use. It often required turning the wood over and splitting from the other side because of it's short stroke. It was an OK splitter while it lasted.
